Just as keeping your home clean and organized is important, the same goes for your car. You should be able to find everything you need within a moment’s notice, and you shouldn’t allow your car to get to a point where it is dirty and cluttered. Although you may live in your car (or at least it may seem that way if you find yourself traveling or commuting places all the time), it shouldn’t be dirty and disorganized. Here are a few ways that you can keep it clean, with everything easy to find.
Pick a Day of the Week to Clean Out Your Car
Pick one day a week where you dedicate time to cleaning out your car and getting everything you need either removed, put into a place where you can find it, and cleaning up spills and other messes. For example, perhaps choose a Saturday to clean out your car, if you find yourself traveling all week. Take time to put things in their proper place within the car, bring them in to the house, or get rid of them if they are unneeded or unwanted, like trash, for example.
Designate One Place For All Your Documents
When you are pulled over and need to find your insurance information, you don’t want to have to dig through piles in your car to find it. Decide what items or information you need to keep in your car. Insurance is one, but you may also need medical documents, items for work, parking passes, and other such things. Get all the items that you believe are important to have in your car, and put them in one place. This could be the glove box, a briefcase, or some other area that you can quickly and easily access.
Have a Place for Trash
Find a place to put a small wastebasket, bag, or other item that can easily hold trash. That means if you have used coffee cups, papers, or other items, you can throw them in there, and not have to worry about them being on the floor, or otherwise creating a mess in the car before you can clean it out. Then, when cleaning day does arrive, it will be easy to get rid of the items and have everything together in less time than if you have decided to dump your trash on the floor.
Before you go shopping for a car, think about what you can do to take care of it, and how you can make it easier for yourself to get rid of trash and keep all your items in one place, with a little bit of forethought. It also helps to designate a cleaning day, so you do not have to worry about when you will clean your car out next. Instead, think about what you need, and what steps you can take so that cleaning is a preventative measure rather than a solution to an ongoing problem.
